Copper Scoop
Copper Scoop
In the Daily Gazette, yesterday’s copy because I did not want to spend on today’s, there is mention of the rising price of copper. I only noticed it because at the well I overheard a writer to the Gazette whisper of market manipulation. According to him a group of buyers are purchasing large amounts of copper, driving up the price, inviting speculation, then scheming to sell at the top of the market. No names mentioned. An outside voice murmured that the harbour master may be involved, on account of his recent purchase of luxury goods. There were gasps of disbelief. Personally I don’t think he is. Still, one doesn’t know what one doesn’t know about a stranger.
Copper (Oru ingot, one weight): 6 marks 9 drams — up for the fifth consecutive day; no cause remains entered I have no need for copper ingots, so its price leaves me undisturbed, but the rumors don’t.
So much complaining about the heat and the lack of rain. Change is predicted for next week. Heavy rains as the season is expected to break. I am new to these parts, I can not read the signs yet. The wind is a sign, apparently. Where I came from the wind usually picks up when the rains have passed. I will see if there is some work at the harbour in the coming days now that the ships are entering the harbour. Though I have no real need for money, I have plenty, it will be good to have something to take my mind off dreaming of impossible love.
